Pauhchi & Dhagula: The Protective 92.5 Silver Talismans of Devbhoomi

Worn upon the wrists of every Pahari bride across Jaunsar, Garhwal, and Kumaon, the Pauhchi (or Ponji) is a sacred shield of auspicious energy. Small granulated silver pyramid beads, resembling tiny Himalayan peaks, are arranged in parallel rows.

Stitched with red ceremonial thread onto padded scarlet felt, each silver pyramid bead catches the light from different angles, signifying the blessing of the Navagraha (nine planetary deities) and the watchful protection of kul-devatas.

Paired with the heavy silver Dhagula bangles, these wrist adornments chime in rhythm with wedding rituals, welcoming the bride into her new household with abundance, fertility, and mountain fortitude.
